Cheap program to learn Spanish?
I’m having a hard time learning Spanish in my class. Is there a program like Rosetta Stone to help, but doesn’t cost as much?
Rosetta wouldn’t be of much help anyway. It’s really only good to memorize vocabulary words. It doesn’t help with conversational skills. I would recommend you look into Pimsleur. It’s a real confidence builder, which is essential for new students. You will learn to train your ear to understand natives (an essential part of early learning often overlooked by other methods), develop very good pronunciation and acquire the core structures and grammar of your new language (exactly what RS fails to do.) It’s also almost half the price of RS (check Amazon.) Good luck.
Also note that Glober recommends you take note while doing Pimsleur! DO NOT DO THIS! This really goes against the scientific method developed by Dr. Pimsleur. That is expressly explained in the user’s guide and on the audio. You want to actively participate orally. Pimsleur is a not a passive, memorization method.

Can anyone advise me on a good program to learn Spanish (learn to speak basic Spanish)?
I know there is a program by Rosetta Stone and also Berlitz and others – I would like some input on what I should get?
I tried to learn French with Rosetta Stone, and it did NOT work.
I’ve also tried Spanish and Japanese with that program, and it just didn’t work well with me.
It really depends on how you learn best, but personally I would just get a tutor.

What is the best program to use to learn Spanish?
My husband and I are wanting to learn to speak Spanish fluently. Not only is it somewhat of a life goal (to be fluent in another language), but both of our jobs would benefit from it. I know the best way is to listen, read, and try to talk in Spanish. But of course you have to have somewhat of a base line to get started. What programs or any other tools have you had success with?

i have to take intermediate spanish II this summer…haven’t taken spanish in about 3 years. do you know of any computer programs that are helpful to brush up on basic spanish before the class starts? i have about a month before the class begins. thanks.
I know a site that is REALLY useful and an excellent resource: http://www.studyspanish.com/users/. I’ve used it while I was taking Spanish 3 in high school. They have exercises and quizzes for you to test your skills after they’ve introduced a lesson. It’s clear, and easy to understand! =D Have fun with it!
